Fair Trade Jewellery

An exhibition called 'Green Gold' featured jewellery created by Stacey Whale using inspiration, images and experiences from her trip to Colombia.  Commissioned by The Candescent Project, Stacey produced jewellery using gold sourced from Oro Verde (green gold) in Colombia. As the name 'Green Gold' suggests the gold is mined without the use of chemicals and the working practices of the small-scale mines are fair. The fairly traded gems featuring in the jewellery were kindly supplied by Columbia Gem House in the U.S.A.  Photography and art accompanied the exhibition and was held at the Art Workers Guild, a hidden gem in Bloomsbury, London.

With funding from Cordaid and CAFOD, The Candescent Project sponsored Stacey to visit Colombia in March to assist with the development and research process of the jewellery for the exhibition. Images of Stacey's trip to Colombia can be seen by clicking on the links found under TRIP TO COLOMBIA on the menu.
